Penang – Georgetown

After finally reaching my destination of choice, I realised that I was pretty tired of cities like this, with their Chinatowns and Little Indias and museums but little boozing. I was relatively excited to begin with, but after meeting the others and hearing their tales that it wasn't all it was cracked up to be, my expectations were significantly dampened.
Perhintians to Penang

After taking a long taxi ride with the Brazilians to Kota Bharu, I found that night that there were no longer any seats for any buses to Penang. Fuck. I'd have to stay a night in a city that I had no idea about, I had no guidebooks, and I was completely alone. I wandered around the center of town for a while after ordering a bus ticket at 10 in the morning. I didn't have a clue what to do and the bus station I needed to get to wasn't the one I ordered from. It was called Jalah Hamza, and it was 2km away. In which direction, I wasn't sure.

Something was missing, I knew exactly what it was. It was getting abominably lashed so I couldn't really speak. It's pretty hard to do that in Malaysia.

After the semi madness of Kuala Lumpur I was feeling ready for a chill out session on the bus. It took four and a half hours to get to the Cameron Highlands so there was plenty of that, but as we approached it rained and rained.

A day tour of Kuala Lumpur should normally include the Batu Caves and either the Petrona Towers or the Menara Kuala Lumpur. KL is a very big city so there's plenty to do in the evening. Check out some of the highlights on this blog.

A quick guide to the food I was eating up until the end of Kuala Lumpur. Malaysian cuisine is eclectic and excellent, with Chinese, Indian and Malay food all being delicious.
A Good Session in Kuala Lumpur

When we got to Kuala Lumpur I was feeling better, but when I saw Frank had messaged me to check on how I was there was a massive feeling of relief. It felt like the anxiety had almost completely lifted. Although I still missed people, it had been four days with a good group and [...]
Melaka by Day*

A day sightseeing in Melaka - there's certainly a lot here for culture vultures and history boffins, with colonial Dutch and Portuguese buildings dotted throughout the city center. A cultural delight.
Melaka by Night

What the newly formed group of four did when we got to Melaka on a Friday evening. There were no westerners anywhere, and the bars were hardly full either... I don't really know what I was expecting.

Providing you don't want to go shopping, you can cover most of the tourist attractions of Singapore in a day. If you really wanted to cram, you could do what we did here and then the Night Safari in the evening.
